

Jason Todd Schools, 46 of Ashland, transitioned peacefully on Saturday, April 19, 2025 after battling lung cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Temple Schools; stepfather, William Andrew Thornton; grandparents, William Randolph Jones and Nellie Williams Jones; Edward E. Schools and Allie Schools and Lucy Ross. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jacqueline Merrill Schools; two sons, Dalton Temple Schools and Slater Jack Schools; his mother, Beverly Schools Thornton; mother-in-law, Rosemary Nock Marcengill; father-in-law, Jack Merrill; sister and brother-in-law, Pamela Schools Mackey and Steven Tracy Mackey; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Christy Merrill Seman and Edward Charles Seman, Jr., nephew Alex Cole Mackey (Hannah & Ellie), niece Kaylyn Rhea Mackey (Chad Myers), and nephew Edward Charles Seman, III and “brother”, Craig McCloud.
Jason attended Lee-Davis High School in Mechanicsville graduating in 1997. He followed his sister to Virginia Tech graduating in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction. He went on to work for Snow Jr. & King Masonry and Kjellstrom and Lee, Inc. (“K+L”) where he rose to VP of Preconstruction. He married the love of his life, Jacque, on June 12, 2010 in Greenbackville, VA. They enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends for nearly 15 years as they raised their two boys, Dalton and Slater, in Ashland, VA. His passions were vast…family, friends, golf, fishing, and especially Virginia Tech. He will be missed every second of every day.
The family would like to invite those whose lives Jason touched to Woody’s Funeral Home – Atlee Chapel, 9271 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville, 23116, for a visitation from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Monday, May 5, 2025. A service will follow at 2:00 PM.
Jason’s influence will forever remain in the lives that knew him. His family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Virginia Cancer Institute and St. Mary’s Hospital. Many thanks to the K+L work family; their Ashland Park neighbors and especially Megan Hollomon for her personalized care during Jason’s cancer journey.
