Jose Jacinto Amaral

José Jacinto Amaral, 80, of Glen Allen, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. He was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, José Vieira Amaral and Maria José Arruda, as well as his brothers, Manuel A., Antonio A., and David V.

José owned and operated his own landscaping business. He enjoyed playing dominoes with his beloved wife and savoring his favorite sweet treat, Blue Bell vanilla ice cream. He took pride in caring for his garden—especially his roses and hydrangeas—and never missed his daily walks. He began and ended each day with a cup of coffee. A passionate soccer fan, José loved cheering for his favorite team, Benfica.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Maria Furtado; his devoted children Ana Sousa (David), Joe Amaral, Donna Gillespie, Paula Chisholm (Franklin), Fabio Amaral (Francine), and Solange Haun (James); and his cherished grandchildren Sherrie, Marissa, Chris, Gracie, Chloe, Cooper, Natalie, Cohen, Declan, Felix, Parker, and Sophie. He is also survived by his siblings Zenaida F., Jaime A., Dora V., Cecelia V., Maria de Deus S., and Maria José L., along with several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 23, from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, VA. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM at Signal Hill Memorial Park, 12360 Hanover Courthouse Rd., Hanover, VA.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that a rose bush or hydrangea be planted in memory of their beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
