

She was preceded in death by her husband, Winston, G. West; parents, Earl Ray Thomas, Sr. and Minnie, Conley Thomas; sisters, Mary Lee Barrack; Rubinette T. Watts; brother, Earl Ray Thomas, Jr., and stepdaughter, Gayle W. Sylvester.
She is survived by daughter, Deen Sweaney (Brian); granddaughters, Jessica Lipford, Kelly Bell (Brad); great-grandchildren, Haylee Lipford, Colby Lipford; stepdaughter, Patricia W. Fields; sister-in-law, Emily Thomas, and nieces and nephews.
She attended Mary Washington College before graduating from RPI, now VCU, and taught for 33 years in Hanover and Henrico County schools. Being active in the PTA, earning the honor of lifelong membership after years of service and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honor Society for educators, and is an honorary member of the Hanover Ruritan club. Her favorite things were, game shows, BINGO, buying seven 2-dollar lottery tickets, being on the Senior bowling league, eating Hanover tomatoes on a BLT and her family. She loved candy and sweets, and Aspercreme was the cure to anything.
Louise was a member of Mechanicsville Baptist Church, Cool Spring Baptist Church, and Hopewell United Methodist Church in Farnham, Virginia.
A visitation will begin at 12 PM with a celebration of life at 1 PM on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at Woody Funeral Home - Atlee Chapel, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, VA 23116. A graveside service will follow at Signal Hill Memorial Park, 12360 Hanover Courthouse Rd., Hanover, Virginia
