

SHELTON, Mabel Lee Parrish, of Mechanicsville, passed away at home on October 15, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Harry Shelton. In November, she and Harry would have celebrated their 65th anniversary. She is also survived by three daughters, Betty Rivera, Donna Burgess (Clyde) and Cathy Carter (Fontaine); five grandchildren, Jimmy Jones, Allison Pittman, Shawn Burgess, Amanda Allen and Danielle Martin; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, CDR Whitney Parrish (U.S. Navy Retired); and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Rebecca and Samuel Parrish; three sisters, Lottie Hill, Ethel Lavinia Parrish and Jean Sisk; five brothers, Robert, Clarence, Vernard, Hubert and Bryant Parrish; and a granddaughter, Shannon Burgess Burns. Mabel was a charter member of Chamberlayne Heights United Methodist Church. She was also a charter member of Valentine Woman's Club and a longtime member of the Old Dominion Woman's Club. The family will receive friends at the Woody Funeral Home -Atlee Chapel on October 17, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Woody Funeral Home - Atlee Chapel on October 18, 2012 at 11 a.m. Interment at Westhampton Memorial Park.
