Lt. Michael T. Tilley

November 30, 1969January 12, 2019

Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Public Servant, Lieutenant and Coach. These are words that describe a man who defined perseverance. Michael Timothy Tilley, 49, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 12, 2019, surrounded by his family, after privately battling cancer for several years. He was an amazing husband and the world’s best daddy. He was recently promoted to Lieutenant with the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, where he fulfilled his true calling as a police officer. Mike served as the sergeant of the Safe Streets Unit prior to his recent promotion and was renowned in the traffic safety community. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed spending time with his family and coaching his daughter’s softball team. He was loved and respected by many and his memory will live on.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard J. Tilley. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Ann; his daughter, Caroline; his mother, Judy Tilley; his sister, Shelly Kern (Steven); his brothers, Jim Tilley and Paul Tilley (Cheryl); and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.

ADD A MEMORY
Doris Edison

January 15, 2019

I am Dr. Edison’s widow. Carolyn and I are so sorry to hear of your loss. You have certainly had your share of loss. Michael was far too young and far too important for this tragedy. Be assured, Carolyn and I always remember what a true pleasure you and your family were. It was always a good day when Rick came in the office. Our deepest sympathy. Doris and Carolyn
