He was a retired computer analyst for the U. S. Census Bureau and retired in Ogden, Utah where he and his wife, Carolyn, lived for approximately 25 years. He was very active in the Audubon Society, leading local bird watching trips in Utah as well as in Virginia.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carolyn Somer; children, Jill Somer, Scott Somer and Jeremy Somer; and step-children, Arthur Hodges and Jean McRae.
