Obituary of Nancy Mae Thompson
THOMPSON, Nancy Mae, 70, of Mechanicsville, Va. entered heaven on July 28, 2017. Born on October 27, 1946, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Robert Charles Currence and Rosa Lee Currence. Nancy grew up in Washington, D.C. and enjoyed reminiscing of her time spent at the National Monument and the surrounding areas. She also enjoyed sharing stories of spending her childhood summers with family in West Virginia. She was a 1966 graduate of Anacostia High School in Washington, D.C. She was married to Ron Thompson for 14 years and resided in Maryland with their two children. In 1989, Nancy and her son embarked on a new life adventure when they moved to Northern California. In 2005, Nancy returned to the east coast when she moved to Virginia. She resided in Mechanicsville with her daughter, her son-in-law, and three grandchildren. During her working years, she held many different employment positions. She gained experience as an administrative assistant, a school crossing guard, a school bus driver, and a sales associate. She was a very social person with a particular fondness for young children, the elderly, and animals. Nancy enjoyed life “on-the-go” and visiting new places or attending various events. She will be remembered for her kind, caring personality and fiery spirit. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Foley and her husband, Keith of Mechanicsville, Va.; her son, Jason Thompson of Surfside Beach, S.C.; two sisters, Pat Bailey and her husband, Ray of Leonardtown, Md., Jane Ratliff and her husband, Ron of Lexington Park, Md.; one brother, Tim Currence of Eastern Shore, Md.; three grandchildren, Danielle, Logan, and Rachel; additional family members, and close friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, brother Bobby, and her dog Tippy.The family will receive friends from 12-1 p.m., Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Woody Funeral Home-Atlee Chapel, 9271 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville, VA 23116, followed by her memorial service at 1 p.m.. A reception will follow at Kings Charter Clubhouse, 9407 Kings Charter Drive, Mechanicsville, VA 23116. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society via mail at P.O.
