Richard Keane Malamphy, (age 82), of Williamsburg, VA passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023. He is the loving husband of Pamela Fontenot Malamphy; cherished father of James Dean of Los Angeles, CA, and Laura Tully (Jason) of Henrico, VA; cherished grandfather of Joshua and Anna Tully; brother of Lee Maddare (Charles) of Wolcott, CT, Paul Malamphy of New York, NY, Peter Malamphy of Santa Clarita, CA, and Kate Humphreys (Bruce) of Delray, FL. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Maggie. Richard was preceded in death by his parents Richard Henry Malamphy and Mary Elizabeth Keane Malamphy and step mother, Rita Malamphy Brooks.
He served in the U.S. Army and received the Marksman Medal (Rifle and Carbine) and the Good Conduct Medal; Graduate of University of Colorado, Graduate of Georgetown Law School, and former member of the Lions Club of James City County. Being a federal judge, he was often stoic and serious, but his sense of humor would shine through when he delivered a classic one-liner that made everyone laugh. He had an unbelievable memory and a story for everything. He loved to travel and had a fondness for Japan, where he was stationed in the Army. He loved picnics by the river, boat rides with his family, and NASCAR races with good friends. He loved University of Florida football and razzing his wife, Pam, a lifelong LSU fan. His grandkids will miss his silly nicknames (Puddin’ Pop or Tater Tot) and his love for all- things-bears. Pop-pop loved his Joshua and Anna. “The Judge” will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or the Food Bank of Virginia.
