OBITUARY
Richard Puckett Mays
June 16, 1929 – June 12, 2017
Mays, Richard P. passed away June 12, 2017 at home surrounded by loving family, just 5 days before his 88th birthday. From Beckley, West Virginia, he attended Davis & Elkins college where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and went on to study at Johns Hopkins University. Richard served in the Army Medical Corps in Europe during the Korean War. He settled in the Richmond area where he met his wife Leslie and worked as a Pharmaceutical Research Chemist at A.H. Robins where he was a loyal employee for 32 years. Known for a mischievous sense of humor and a quick wit, he was always enthusiastic and ready to lend a helping hand. He gave all to his family with never a thought for himself, he was adored by his loved ones. He is dearly loved and missed by his wife, Leslie Mays, his children, Melinda Ann Pippin, Richard B. Mays and Mary Beth Mays, his loving nephew, Joseph Connell, and his grandsons, Tyler and Reed Pippin. He is survived by two older brothers, James F. Mays and his wife Blanche, of Cumberland Center, Maine and Charles D. Mays of Lewisville, NC. The family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville. A private service for immediate family will be held later.
