He was preceded in death by his parents, Covert J. Perkins and Sara B. Perkins.
Rick was a proud graduate of Virginia Tech, where he earned his bachelor’s degree and developed a lifelong love for the Hokies.
Rick spent his career as a well-known construction and mortgage loan officer, working with several banks throughout the Richmond area. Over the years, he built long-standing relationships with many local builders, earning a reputation for his reliability, expertise, and commitment to the industry. He retired over a decade ago, but his impact remains in the community he served.
Outside of work, Rick embraced life outdoors. He loved being on the water, whether paddleboarding, kayaking, or just enjoying the peacefulness of Deltaville, one of his favorite places to relax. He enjoyed camping, boating, outdoor concerts, and spending time in nature. A skilled woodworker, he crafted much of the furniture in his home with his own hands.
Rick had a heart for service. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Meals on Wheels, and for many years, he coached Little League baseball and youth basketball. He also participated in the Monument Avenue 10k, always up for a challenge and a good time with family and friends.
Rick is survived by his children, Kelley Perkins (Mace) partner Matthew Coates, Ryan and Jennifer Perkins; grandchildren, Jeremy, Trent, Adam, Rylee, and Carter; and siblings, Peggy(Rhu) Harris, Sara Duymich, and Rand (Laurie) Perkins who will forever carry his love and spirit with them.
A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, 12609 Patterson Ave., Richmond, VA 23238, on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
