

Nellie "Ruth" Owens was born to Challie Monroe and Winnie Dolly Woody Owens on July 4, 1940, in Wilkes County, North Carolina.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Earl McKinley Owens, Connie Owens, Roby Travis Owens, Addis Carl Owens, and Robert Jackson Owens, and her sisters Novella Childress, Idella Morris, Sadie Vernell Price, and Cora Lee Poore.
She is survived by her husband James William "Jimmy" Lane of 28 years, her daughters Holly Stankiewicz Livermon (Jason) and Lori Stankiewicz Parker (Mike) born from her marriage to Richard John Stankiewicz of 23 years, grandchildren Brandon McGuire, Cellina Parker, Haydn Parker, Alayna Parker, and great-grandchild, Finley McGuire. She never forgot her roots and loved her beloved family in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina.
Ruth worked at Reynolds Metals in Richmond, Virginia, until she became pregnant with her first child. After raising two children, she was employed at Virginia’s Department of Corrections until 2007, where she retired after 18 years.
Ruth was a precious woman of God and expressed love and kindness to everyone she met. She was a member and attended New Life Outreach Church for many years. As a mother, she was an encourager, a prayer warrior, and demonstrated sacrificial love. She loved making casseroles and especially visits with her family and friends. As a wife, she demonstrated great strength, grace, and was an example of what it means to forgive others.
Proverbs 31:26 says, “She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.”
