Obituary of Scott Alan Schricker
Scott A. Schricker—dedicated husband and father of two, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend of many—passed away on October 19, 2022, in Richmond, VA, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 55 years old. Scott was born the second son of Karl Manfred and Annaliesa Schricker in Teaneck, NJ. His mother, widowed when Scott and his brother were young children, later remarried Gustave Chas, also a widower with two young children. The united family moved to Woodcliff Lake, NJ, where Scott grew up with his three siblings. They spent many wonderful summers together at their vacation home on Long Beach Island, NJ, which Scott often described as his “favorite place on earth.” Scott graduated from Pascack Hills High School in Montvale, NJ, before attending the University of Virginia, where he majored in Marketing. After graduation, he started his career at WVIR TV Channel 29 in Charlottesville, VA, to pursue his love of sports and videography. There he met his future wife, Karen. The couple moved to Richmond, VA, where they married in 1995 and started their family. Scott worked for the Richmond Braves, which soon led to a lifelong career at Richmond Sports Backers. Scott—known for his kindness, hard work, and keen sense of humor—was a UVA superfan, Billy Joel aficionado, enthusiastic gardener, half-marathoner, and advocate for active living in the Richmond community. His greatest love was for his family. He especially enjoyed attending his daughter Erin’s ice skating performances, watching classic movies with his son Michael, and traveling with his entire family. Scott was preceded in death by his father Karl Manfred Schricker. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen, their two children, Erin and Michael, his mother Annaliesa Chas, step-father Gustave Chas, brother Paul, step-sister Monika, step-brother Per, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church in Richmond, VA, on Monday, October 24, at 1:30pm. Immediately after the service, a fellowship gathering will be held at the church. Scott had requested that In lieu of flowers, donations be made to Richmond Sports Backers, to help further the mission he cared about so deeply. In Scott’s honor, Sports Backers has established a scholarship fund to continue Scott’s legacy in the Richmond community. His family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all friends and family for their encouragement and support during these past several months.
