Sharon was the fiercest Mom and most loyal Tar Heel fan there was. She was born in Hillsdale, NJ in 1973 to Roy and Lois Kohan, who instilled passion and dedication at an early age. She was always a presence in her brothers’ lives, learning from her older brothers, Jeff and Glenn, while teaching and encouraging her younger brothers, Kevin and Craig. She was well known for her athleticism and energy, often participating with (and outdoing) the boys. She excelled at most sports, but her passion was softball. Her tenacity at the shortstop position earned her a spot at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she played for four years while also earning a bachelors degree in Chemistry. She came back to UNC for her Clinical Lab Science degree and eventually earned a Masters of Forensic Science.
Sharon met Kevin “Skipp” Skipper in 1995 at UNC Chapel Hill. Having met through mutual classmates who were dating at the time, Skipp knew she was everything any man could want - cute, funny, smart, sassy, athletic, loved sports, the Tar Heels and beer! He made the smartest decision of his life when the two were married in Saint Lucia in 2005.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Skipp, and their three children, Mackenzie, Chase and Eli, her parents Roy and Lois Kohan of Hillsdale, NJ. Her brother Jeff and his wife, Denise, of Hillsdale, NJ. Her brother Glenn and his wife, Jeanne, of Hillsdale, NJ, her brother Kevin and his wife, Carolina, of Fort Lauderdale, FL and her brother Craig of Fort Lauderdale, FL. As well as other nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Sharon will be held Thursday, May 29, 2025 from 5 pm to 8 pm at Woody Funeral Home-Atlee, 9271 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville, VA 23116. A memorial service will occur Friday, May 30, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Shady Grove United Methodist Church, 8209 Shady Grove Rd, Mechanicsville, VA 23111.
