

She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 65 years, Michael Strum; her beloved daughters, Cheryl Wedel (Stuart) and Kelly Lewis (Eddie); grandchildren, Joshua, Matthew, Lauren, and Logan; sister, Brenda Jennette (I.T.); brother-in-law, Leonard Strum (Marilyn); and many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Born on July 4th, 1938, to Dominick and Ethel Arthurs, Sylvia was raised in Suffolk, Virginia. A dedicated student, she maintained perfect attendance throughout her school years. She later moved to Richmond, where she attended secretarial school and began her career at Best Products. On October 24th, 1959, she married the love of her life, Mike, and the couple eventually settled in Mechanicsville in 1971.
Sylvia’s life was rooted in faith, family, and community. She found joy in her roles as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and neighbor. She was involved in the family business, All Aboard Child Development Center, and was a devoted member of Church of the Redeemer Catholic Church since its founding in 1976.
Known for her grace, warmth, and gentle spirit, Sylvia embodied the charm of a true Southern lady. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the compassionate caregivers at Commonwise Home Care, Bon Secours Hospice, and the local Fire/EMS team.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 1pm-2pm, followed by a Celebration of Life starting at 2pm on June 1st, 2025, at Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Rd, Mechanicsville, VA 23116.
