

Thomas Henry “Tommy” Gontkovic, Sr., 93, of Mechanicsville, Va., peacefully passed away Saturday May 10th, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family. Born June 14th, 1931, in West Point, Va. He was the son of the late Steve and Anna (Mitroka) Gontkovic.
He was a former member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Mechanicsville, Va. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army. Tommy retired from Lee-Hy Paving in 1995 after 47 years. He enjoyed listening to old time country and Bluegrass music, going to country band dances, working in his yard, and watching wrestling.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Jean P. Gontkovic; a daughter Wanda Darlene Tyler (Rob); a stepson and devoted part time caregiver, Erik P. Huefner (Dana), grandsons, Thomas H. “Trey” Gontkovic III (Kerbi), Kristopher T. Garris (Grace), Brandon Norris; granddaughters, Taylor E. Gontkovic, Olivia M. Huefner, Shannon Woods; great granddaughters, Sara M. Gontkovic, McKenzie B. Gontkovic; great grandson Dustin W. Gontkovic; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was proceeded in death by his first wife, Lorreine B. Gontkovic; his son, Thomas H. (Bubba) Gontkovic, Jr. (Faye); four brothers, John, Joe, Mike, and Walter Gontkovic; and two sisters Anna Fostek and Mary Dorish.
Following Tommy’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dementia Society of America.
