Wanda Stout Powell

Wanda Stout Powell, 85, of Mechanicsville passed away peacefully on December 1, 2022. Wanda, or Lou to her family, was born the last of nine children to Hascue and Etta Stout of Bluefield WV. She loved the mountains and always had a fond place in her heart for her hometown. She worked at Bell Atlantic in Richmond until her retirement in 1987 where she established many of her most cherished and long-lasting friendships and was known for being quick with a smile and loyal to anyone who needed her help. Wanda met James E Powell (Jimmy) through these friendships and was married shortly thereafter before son James (Cory) was born in 1976. She loved spending her time by the water be it on a boat or at the beach enjoying the sunshine and making memories with family. Her most cherished time was spent with her grandchildren watching them grow and supporting them in everything they ever did. Wanda was preceded in death by both parents, 7 siblings and her beloved Jimmy who passed in 1986. She is survived by her sister Charlotte Stout, many nieces and nephews, and her son Cory, daughter in law Merideth and granddaughters Abby and Maddie, whom she loved more than anything. While we will miss her wit and bright smile, we will reflect on our memories fondly as they brought so much joy to everyone she came in contact with. Those blue eyes will continue to light the lives of those who loved her. A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Pilots Lane, Richmond VA 23222 on Thursday, December 8 at 3:00pm and officiated by family friend Dan McFaden. In lieu of flowers, memorials made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America would be greatly appreciated.
