Alice I Calkins

Alice Irenia (McFall) Calkins, 91, of Medford, died peacefully at her home early Saturday morning, April 25, 2015. She was born on June 6, 1923, in Clemenceau, Arizona to Raines Austin McFall and Mary (Allen) McFall. Upon Mary’s early death, Raines, better known as Jake, married Daisy Hicks, lovingly called Granny, and the two melded families became one large happy family. Alice was raised in Barton, New Mexico where her family ran a store and gas station along Route 66. In 1942 Alice married LeRoy Calkins when he was home on leave from the Army. Their son Ron was born in Albuquerque in 1945 and soon thereafter they moved to Grants Pass, Oregon where their daughter Linda was born in 1950. Alice kept the books for LeRoy’s business Calkins Excavation. She was an active member of both the Free Methodist and Nazarene Church. Alice and LeRoy enjoyed spending winters together motorhoming, traveling, and visiting family and friends in the west and southwest. They have lived in the Rogue Valley for over 69 years and this year they would have celebrated 73 years of marriage. Survivors include her husband, LeRoy Calkins of Medford, OR; sister Aimee Buckmaster of Grants Pass, OR; son Ron (Wendy) Calkins of Terrebonne, OR; daughter Linda (John) Holton of Caldwell, ID; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, and one grandson. The family would like to thank Alice's many friends and family for their support, and especially her loving niece Kathy Russell for her kindness and care. And a special thanks to Noel Moore and his family for many years of generosity, always being there as a neighbor, and willingly offering a helping hand. A memorial service followed by a reception to celebrate her life will be held Saturday May 2nd,10:30 am at First Church of the Nazarene,1974 E McAndrews Rd, Medford, OR 97504. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made in Alice's name to the Medford Gospel Mission, 125 W Jackson St, Medford, OR 97501.
