Darrel was born in 1936, at home in Eagle Point, to Alvin and Jeri Greb. His siblings were Gloria (affectionately known as Shug) and Ronald. The family bought a dairy farm when Darrel was a young teenager, and he remembered riding his bike in the fields, which later would become the Harry and David pear fields. Later, the bicycle would be put away, and an old Plymouth was his new transportation.
Darrel graduated from Eagle Point High School in 1954, and attended Southern Oregon College of Education. He married Nadra Moore in 1957, served in the National Guard, and started his career as a teller at First National Bank in Medford.
Daughter Julie was born in 1962, followed by son Jeff in 1968. At that time, the family moved to Lebanon, Oregon, where Darrel was a Commercial Lending Officer at First National Bank in Lebanon. While there, he became active with the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Lions, the Strawberry Festival Board, and was a member of the Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. Darrel had a beautiful baritone voice, and in addition to the church choir, he sang with the Lebanon Barbershop Chorus. His passion was fishing and being outdoors, yearly vacations included camping at Three Creeks Lake in Sisters, OR. Countless rainbow trout were enjoyed at family dinners.
In 1977, the family moved back to Central Point, where he became President of the Central Point State Bank. Four years later, Darrel, Nadra, and Jeff moved to Santa Maria, CA, to manage the Bank of Santa Maria, then Mid-State Bank.
Darrel retired in 2001, he and Nadra moved to Bakersfield for a short time, then came back home to the Rogue Valley in 2003. Darrel and Nadra divorced, and Darrel married Donna Barcus in 2007. Darrel and Donna enjoyed traveling, working on their yard, and visiting Donna’s daughter Deanne in Hawaii, along with her husband Burr and their children Tylr and Thalia, who he loved as grandchildren.
Darrel knew all the backroads and fishing holes in the Willamette and Rogue valleys. He could spot a buck across a field on the side of a hill, and tell you how many points were on that buck’s horns. He was a friend to all, an honest businessman, and was loved by many.
He is survived by Gloria Holloway of Eagle Point, and Ronald Greb of Canyon City, Oregon, his children, Jeff Greb and Julie Greb, a grandson, Adam Rauh, along with beloved nieces and nephews and extended family.
