Bessie Ritter

Bessie Ritter, 84, of Medford, OR, passed away September 4, 2014 in Centralia, WA. Bessie was born and raised in Medford, OR to Benjamin and Georgianna (Henry) Geary on July 30, 1930. Bessie enjoyed gardening and was an avid fisher and hunter. She was a committed mother to her children and served the children of Jackson County through her work with State of Oregon children’s services many years until her retirement. She made many friends throughout her life and enjoyed family gatherings the most. She will be missed by many. Bessie is survived by her son, Ron Sowards, of Juneau, AK.; son, Bob Mahon, of Klamath Falls, OR.; daughter, Gera Ritter-Iverson, of Tenino, WA.; brother, Steve Geary of Coffman Cove, AK. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Rodney “DD” Sowards, of Juneau, AK.; Sister, Dorothy Neva, of Oroville, CA.; and brother Mick Geary of Haines, AK. A visitation will be held Friday, September 26, 2014 from 2-4 PM at Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives. She will be laid to rest on Monday September 29, 2014 at Laurel Cemetery in Cave Junction at 11:00 AM.
