Burton Charles Jensen died August 18, 2018 in his home at Orchards Assisted living, with his family by his side.
Burton was born to Charles Perry Jensen and Caroline Elizabeth Rowling Jensen on April 11, 1926, in Livingston, Montana. Both mother and father preceded him in death. He had one brother Russ P. Jensen who lived outside Eagle Point, who preceded him in death and one sister Dorothy M. Jensen Hill, 97, still living in Billings, Montana.
Burton moved with his family from Montana, in 1936 to the Medford area then to Eagle Point where he attended high school.
Burton enlisted in the United States Navy in April 1944, at age 17. He was in the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign and American Area Campaign. He served on the USS Cortland and USS Boston. He was honorably discharged, May of 1946.
Burton married Delta Lorene Buchanan January 1947 (Delta preceded him in death 2005) They had four children: Aedene Jensen Heath Arthur lives in Palmer Alaska, Charlet Jensen Gunter, in Medford, OR, Jim (Burton) Jensen, in Medford, OR and Joey L. Jensen, in Eagle Point, OR.
Burton and Delta purchased property on Nick Young Rd, in 1949 where they lived until 1985. He was proud to say all of his children and four of his grand children attended all 12 grades and graduated from Eagle Point High School. During that time Burton worked construction, then Timber Products, making plywood. They decided to start their own business, Jensen’s Shale Pit. They built many driveways and roads around the Rogue Valley.
Burton served on the Eagle Point Planning Commission from 1962 thru 1976. He was a member of the Dump Truckers Association, Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge. They attended Bethel Church, in Medford.
Burton and Delta moved to Palmer, Alaska in 1985 near his daughter Aedene and her family. Burton found a job driving wrecker at an auto body shop. He started remodeling another home using parts of 2 old mobile homes. It was just too cold to stay in the motor home during the winter months.
Burton then started working for the Borough (county) at the dump transfer station, near his home. Delta became one of the top Avon sales representatives, in Alaska.
Burton’s health declined after his wife passed away. He chose to come back to the Rogue River Valley to be near his family here, in 2008. He found an apartment at Conifer Gardens, in Medford. He stayed there until June of 2017 when he moved to assisted living.
Burton and Delta have 13 grand children, 24 great grandchildren and 3 great- great grandchildren.
Burton loved country music, fixing and selling cars, remodeling his homes and building a new one on top of the hill above Nick Young Rd, Eagle Point OR, sharing old stories, telling jokes, hunting and camping, gardening, but most of all his family.
Burton’s funeral will be at Eagle Point Veterans Cemetery, Friday, September 21, 2018 at 2:00 pm. He will be laid to rest close to his brother, which was one of his last requests.
Burtons’ Celebration of Life will be at Eagle Point Grange Hall directly after his burial about 3:00 pm. Please come and join us celebrate his 92 years of life.
