Charles grew up outside of Deadwood, South Dakota, on a ranch that had neither running water nor electricity. A few decades later, he had earned a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Southern California. The many students who were lucky enough to have had him as a teacher will remember his patience, his good humor, and his ability to make difficult concepts easy to understand. He is survived by his children, Ian Dock of Medford, OR, Aaron Dock of Phoenix, AZ, and Abigail Dock of New Britain, CT, as well as grandsons Owen and Ethan Dock of Phoenix, AZ.
