Dorothy Marie Wolfe of Medford, Oregon passed away peacefully at Rogue Valley Manor Health Center on March 8, 2018.
Dorothy was born in Denver, Colorado to John and Elvera Hoglund and attended Denver schools. She graduated from West Denver High School and St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing. She married James Wolfe on September 8,1950 at the Belcaro Evangelical Free Church in Denver. Jim was employed as a civil engineer with the Army Corp of Engineers and they lived in Colorado, North Dakota, and Washington before settling in the San Francisco Bay Area where they raised their two children. Dorothy worked as a registered nurse in various positions before her retirement in 1987.
Dorothy had a special gift of Scandinavian hospitality, welcoming family and friends and easily setting another place setting to include another guest. Her home baked Swedish Christmas cookies were a treat enjoyed by everyone!
Dorothy had a vibrant Christian faith and served in her local church wherever she lived. She and Jim were part of the group who founded the Evangelical Free Church of Walnut Creek, Calif. After their move to the peninsula they attended Peninsula Bible Church in Palo Alto, Calif. and upon their retirement became members of First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville, Ore.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents John and Elvera Hoglund, her brother Donald Hoglund and her son Donald Wolfe.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jim Wolfe and her daughter Carolyn (Bill) O’Connor of Homewood, Calif; three grandchildren, Cory (Wes) Allison of Homewood, Calif, Brendan O’Connor of Denver, Colo., Miles O’Connor of Portland, Ore; and three great-granddaughters, Summer, Sylvie and Brynn Allison of Homewood, Calif.
Dorothy will be missed and lovingly remembered. Her kindness was an inspiration to all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville, Ore. at 11:00 a.m. The service will be followed by a light luncheon.
