Edwin Luther Dewey of Sams Valley, Oregon, passed into the arms of Jesus on May 6, 2023, following a sudden and unexpected heart attack. He passed away in Carson City, Nevada, while on vacation with his wife Marge Dewey. Ed was a man of God who truly exhibited the fruit of the Holy Spirit. He was kind, considerate, generous, loving, patient, reliable, hard-working and had a very funny, very dry sense of humor that entertained us all.
Ed was born on February 10, 1947 in Ontario. Oregon, to Robert and Elsie Dewey. One of 5 children, he lived in several locations with the family before moving to Sutherlin, Oregon, where he graduated from high school in 1965. Ed graduated from Northwest Christian College in Eugene, Oregon in 1970. He worked various jobs, including landscape maintenance at Southern Oregon University, the job from which he retired in 2009.
Ed and his wife Marge lived in Talent, Oregon, after their marriage on September 4, 1999, until 2016, when they moved to Sams Valley, Oregon. Ed enjoyed building a comfortable place for them to retire. They loved traveling. Especially since their retirements in 2009, they traveled extensively all over the western US, from the tip of Washington State, to southern California, and west Texas to Idaho, and everywhere in between. They also enjoyed hiking, square dancing, round dancing and attending church at Trail Christian Fellowship.
Ed loved the Lord and loved the Word of God. He was trusting in Jesus alone for his salvation. He’s now having the best time of his life ever- in the presence of Jesus!
Revelation 21:3-4 says, “Behold the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they will be His people. God Himself will be with them, and He their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes: there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” And now, because of the grace of God, and the death and resurrection of Jesus that is the new reality that Ed is experiencing.
Ed is survived by his wife Marge, his brothers Ray and Dan, his sisters Merna and Mary, his former spouse Kena, and their children Jennifer Sands, Bill Dewey and Aleta Carper, as well as many grandchildren.
A memorial service for Edwin will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Trail Christian Fellowship, Eagle Point, OR 97524.
