Eva was born 9/22/1929 to Bill and Ruth Clemmer in Emporia, KS. In 1939 her family migrated to Oregon looking for work. Upon hearing of work from family in Hanford, CA, they moved there for a brief time but a longing for the mountains brought the family back, settling in Jacksonville, OR where her father, Bill Clemmer began driving log truck for a living.
Eva graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1947 and from Medford Beauty School in 1949. She worked as a beautician at the Towne Beauty Shoppe on Central Avenue.
In 1950 she married Merle L. Eldridge and his job took them to Hanford, CA. They had two daughters, Darcy (Mark) Lea Burns and Billie (Chuck) Jean Taylor, who survive. It was here she went to work as a policewoman after her divorce.
In 1964 she married John M Berton, a horse trainer, whose work took them from Hanford to Corcoran, Tulare, and Novato, all in CA. When the marriage ended, she brought her daughters home to the Rogue Valley where she worked at Witham’s Truck Stop and Kim’s Restaurant before going to work and retiring from Boise Cascade Sawmill on South Pacific Hwy. Since retiring she was a regular seasonal worker for Bear Creek Corp until 2011.
She is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Trevis & Karlie Burns and Tracey, Darcie & Cody Taylor, and 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Her sister, Barbara (Clemmer) & Gene Hammersley of Reno, NV and sister in law, Aileen Clemmer of Mt Angel, OR also survives her. She was preceded in death by both parents and her brother, Charles (Chuck) Clemmer.
