
George Ambrose Dwyer, 77, of Medford, Oregon, passed peacefully with loved ones by his side on Tuesday, April 14th, 2015, after a long battle with polycystic kidney disease. He was born on January 8th, 1938, to Ambrose and Virginia Dwyer of San Francisco, California. He served his country honorably in the United States Marines, after which he became a fireman with San Mateo County and the youngest to make captain. He moved to Oregon and became a school teacher who was well liked by his students and had pride in giving guidance to them. Upon retiring, he received his pilot’s license and he enjoyed flying his plane. He also enjoyed camping, ocean fishing and working around their property. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Jean, son Bill Dwyer and granddaughter Lauryn. He is also survived by his step-children Neil (Karen) Tally, Debbie (Cliff) Knotts, Patti (Bill) Huss and 10 step-grandchildren Joshua, Chandler, Delanie and Bailee Tally; Britney, Ryan and Tyler Knotts; and Kyle, Nick and Courtney Huss. He loved them all. He also leaves two sisters, Elizabeth Dwyer and Margaret Lesley, and two nieces, Mary and Peggy and great-nephew Josh. Rosie his wirehaired fox terrier was his special pooch and survives. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother James Bernard Dwyer. He touched the hearts of countless people with his kindness and compassion and will be missed beyond words. A special thank you goes out to Dr. Kenneth Stringer and Renal Care Consultants, the Davita Dialysis Center staff, Asante Hospital Intermediate Care unit, and Asante Ashland Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Southern Oregon Humane Society or Access. A private celebration of life was held for family and friends.
