MEDFORD, OR - Jane Belanger (born Anna Jane Fritz), 87, passed away Thursday, August 6th, 2020 at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford.
She was born in Berwick, PA, the daughter of Richard and Grace (Dugan) Fritz. Jane is preceded in death by her two brothers, Richard Fritz of Pennsylvania and Gerald Fritz of Illinois. She is survived by her loving son Matthew Belanger (Jess Carr).
Jane always had a passion for learning and was in the top of her class throughout her life, including at the University of Pennsylvania where she completed her Bachelor’s in English in 1966. She also attended nursing school there where she simultaneously assisted in pioneering heart-lung machine research. Employment opportunities led her to San Francisco where she worked at Mount Zion hospital as a Pediatric Administrator and later the University of California San Francisco. She retired and moved to Southern Oregon in 2002 to be closer to her son, though she always missed the city and had a special place in her heart for San Francisco.
Jane enjoyed theatre and the arts, was a voracious reader for most of her life, and an avid fan of tennis and football (Go Steelers!). She liked to joke that she was in high school before she realized that the Hunchback of Notre Dame wasn’t a football player. She was boundlessly generous, brilliant and sharp witted until the end, and loved to laugh, listen, and learn. She was also a lifelong supporter of public television, and contributions can be made in Jane’s memory to Southern Oregon Public Television at https://be.soptv.org/donate/index.html or your local station in lieu of flowers or other gifts.
There will not be an official service for Jane, but the family asks that you take a moment in your own time to think of her in remembrance.
