John was born in Medford, Oregon in the family home on June 27th, 1934 to Fred and Rita Bodenstab with his grandmother delivering him. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Lilly Sherman.
After graduating from Medford High School, he joined the army and was stationed in Seattle and Anchorage, Alaska. He served during the Korean War in the Army Signal Corp (Alaska Communications).
He met his future wife, Rose at a Sunday School picnic in Spanaway, Washington and they were married September 11th, 1955. They just celebrated 66 years together. After John was discharged from the army, they moved back to Medford, Oregon. He was employed by the city of Medford in the Engineering Department for 33 years.
John was a dedicated Christian, taught Sunday School and led a men's bible study. He also helped build the Nazarene Church on East McAndrews, which was a two year commitment.
John had several God given talents. He could pick up any string instrument and play by ear. Woodworking was also a gift but his best talent was pencil drawing. He loved to draw wildlife and cartoons.
John is survived by Rose, their son Mark Bodenstab (Doris) and daughter Julie Williamson (Duane); six grandchildren, Nathan, Nikki, Laura, Randi, Lindsey, Jacob, and nine great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 25th at 11:00am, at New Life Nazarene Church, located on 1974 E McAndrews Rd in Medford, Oregon. Please consider wearing a mask for your protection.
