John Daniel Hopkins, of Applegate, Oregon passed away April 3, 2021 at his home surrounded by family.
John was proud to be a native Oregonian, born September 8, 1934 in Ashland, at his grandparent’s home. He grew up on a ranch outside the city of Buckhorn Springs road. John helped his father on the ranch and started fixing the equipment. He graduated from Ashland Senior High in 1952. He enlisted in the US Army, while there he continued his education to become a heavy equipment mechanic. He was part of the Corp of Engineers and spent eighteen months in Toul, France with the 507th Corp of Engineer. After returning home from service, he continued working with his father on the ranch. At that time he married Linda Setchell and they had one child, William Hopkins. John then went to work for the Jackson County Road Department as a heavy equipment mechanic, where he worked for 32 years.
Linda passed away in 1974. John enjoyed square dancing and in 1976 met a lady, Edna J. Miles and they were married in July 1977. Edna had two children, Sharon L. Miles and Donald R. Miles Jr. John and Edna moved to the Applegate in 1990.
John was a very gentle man and always enjoyed helping others. He was a member of the Ruch Community Bible Church, where he served as a Deacon for several years. He also served on the board of the Dunn Hill Cemetery for several years. He was also a member of the Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Association.
John was preceded in death by grandparents, parents, 1st wife, Linda. He is survived by his wife, Edna; son, William (Janett) and two grandchildren, Emma and Matthew; step-children, Sharon Miles and Donald Miles Jr. (Adrianne) and their children Robert, Jennifer and Jeff.
He will be truly missed by everyone who knew him.
He will be buried at Dunn Hill Cemetery on April 17th with his family in attendance. Followed by Memorial Service at Ruch Community Bible Church at 2pm with Pastor Ron McKay officiating.
