Judith Ann Atteberry went to meet her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 22nd, after a long battle with cancer. Judy, as she was known to all of her friends (of which she had many), was born on December 17th, 1940 in Pulaski County, Indiana. On June 21, 1959, she married the love of her life, Joe “Jody” Atteberry. Judy and Joe lived in Riverside, California, until 1978, when they moved to El Dorado Hills in Northern California. Once they arrived there, and the spark of the Lord set a fire in their hearts, Judy and Joe helped establish, build, and supported the El Dorado Hills Baptist Church. Judy was a much-loved elementary school librarian at Buckeye School District in El Dorado county, serving students at three different learning facilities. In 1997, Judy and Joe visited Rogue River, in their quest to find just the right spot for their retirement. They fell in love with this area and community, and moved to the Wimer area of Rogue River. At the time they moved here, the group that was to become Grace Baptist Church was meeting at the Live Oak Grange. Judy and Joe were intrinsic in the formation and building of Grace Baptist Church, with Judy teaching Sunday school for a number of years. Judy gave much of herself to the community of Rogue River. She was active in numerous ladies’ bible study groups, and she loved sharing her faith. An avid admirer of beauty of all kinds, Judy had a particular affinity for flowers – especially roses and peonies, floral arrangements, and everything that sparkled. She was an exceptionally talented seamstress and quilter, to the point the she completely reconstructed the wedding dress that would eventually be worn by her daughter-in-law. She loved the ocean and would often be found with family at the coast, in the front seat of their Polaris side-by-side, driving up and down the shore with her beloved son, David. Besides her passion for helping others and leading people to the Lord, Judy loved her tea parties. This year, she won the trophy for the best theme table at the Grace Baptist Church Ladies’ High Tea. Her theme was the Roaring 20’s. In addition, she was active with the local Red Hat Society, and was very dedicated to all of those events. Heaven for Judy might look like a never-ending tea party, spending time with her son, David, who preceded her in early January of 2017, Pastor Lenny Brewer, many of her friends and relatives, more roses than you can count, and a closet full of flapper dresses and fancy hats. She is survived by her husband, Joe, her daughters, Ruth Riedman and Susan Ogando, her sister, Janet Griffin, and her much loved and doted upon grandchildren and great grandchild, Ricky Hill, Ryan Hill (father of Judy’s great-granddaughter, Makenna Hill), Christopher Curtis, Renee Curtis, Rebekah Atteberry, and Elizabeth Atteberry. Also, her beloved black cat, Poppy, and her Malty-Poo, Annie. She will be greatly missed by many.
