Larry Grant Pettit departed for his greatest adventure on Tuesday, December 29th, 2021. Although his heart was overflowing with love for his family, it could no longer carry him here on earth. He slipped away peacefully in his home, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, fierce compassion for others, and a lifetime of stories, faith, and laughter.
Born in Le Sueur, Minnesota to parents Frank and Margaret Pettit on November 04, 1941, Larry was industrious and resourceful from a young age, working at 9 years old shoveling snow, mowing yards, and delivering newspapers. His work ethic grew and carried him through the years as he learned new skills and worked different jobs, eventually running his own business. Larry worked hard to provide for his loved ones, all the while quietly coming alongside those in need. There are countless stories, such as Larry repairing a widow’s mobile home one cold Christmas Eve night free of charge, or providing work around his house for an out-of-work contractor, and he always gave discreetly and cheerfully. He also enjoyed being active in his church. Faith and community were important to Larry, and he loved showing up on Wednesday nights for Super Suppers, serving as an usher, or even helping out with coffee and donuts on Sunday mornings. He and Barbara had many friends, and their lives revolved around their deep love for God. He also liked to give away gifts from the collection of trinkets and gadgets he’d pick up on the many road trip adventures with his family. In his retirement, Larry volunteered his time driving a bus for Avamere, a retirement home in Medford, Oregon. His love for people and their stories made him a popular figure during his ten years serving there, and he found great fulfillment and touched many lives.
Larry is survived by his loving wife Barbara of Medford, Oregon, his daughter Lisa Kornstad (Rob) of Medford, Oregon, his son Jeff Stewart of Klamath Falls, Oregon, his son Steven Pettit (Amanda) of Fort Worth, Texas, his daughter Shelly Ash of Durant, Oklahoma, and his daughter Sherry King of El Centro, California. He took great delight in his grandchildren, Ashley Heil (Brian) of Sherwood, Oregon, Tyler Ash of Dallas, Texas, Little Jeffery (deceased), Jayden Pettit, Stevie Pettit, and Molly Pettit of Fort Worth, Texas, Hope Ingram (Zachary) of Durant, Texas, and Daniel Ash of Durant, Texas, and his great grandchildren, Hadley Dené Heil of Sherwood, OR, and Kinlee, Kayson and Karlee Ingram of Durant, Texas. Larry’s life was also blessed by his siblings, Shannon Spradlin of Hamilton, Kansas, Dianne Hamner of Meridian, Idaho, Donna Laughlin of Buckeye, Arizona, and Timothy Pettit (deceased).
Larry had an adventurous, feisty spirit and loved people without hesitation or boundaries. He was generous, compassionate, and full of life. He will be missed deeply, remembered fondly, and loved forever. A service celebrating Larry’s new adventure will take place at 1 o’clock pm on Friday, January 14. 2022 at New Life Naz, located at 1974 E McAndrews rd. in Medford, Oregon, 97504. For those who can’t attend, the service will be live streamed on Steven Pettit’s Facebook account.
