He was born on April 10, 1952, in Medford, OR, to Eugene and Valieta (Conley) Calhoun. He was the youngest of nine children. Lester worked in the fruit industry most of his adult life and worked for over 20 years as a night watchman and forklift driver at SOS Packing. Lester was known as a very kind person who would help anyone anytime. He enjoyed reading western paperbacks and had the entire collection of Louis Lamour books. He loved to watch professional wrestling on TV and when Portland Wrestling would come to Medford he would never miss a match When his children were younger, he coached YMCA sports and volunteered for the Phoenix/Talent Little League. When his nephews were young, he volunteered with the Medford Little League. He enjoyed hunting with his son and his friends. This year he drew a special tag that he was very happy about and talked about getting out to use that tag right up until a few days before he passed. He was always very proud of his children and their accomplishments. He was an animal lover and in later years always wanted to “visit the dogs” (Teagon, Riley, and Cleo). Lester told those close to him many times in his last weeks he was ready to go home. He is now at peace and pain free. Even though he is missed by those that loved him he has gained his wings and is flying high and free from pain and we are grateful for that. He is survived by his two children Jessica Calhoun and Joey Calhoun (Liz), grandson Grayson, his ex-wife Susan Calhoun, sister Daisey Walker and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene Calhoun, John and Valieta Eller, in-laws Wayne and Doris Wiley, brothers Bill and Emmett, nephew Jason and niece Bonnie. The family would like to say a special thanks to Providence in Home Health, his nurse Courtney and Providence Hospice, Megan and his Nurses Issac and Terry and to Kendra and the staff at Laurel Pines for making his last days as comfortable as possible.
A memorial service for anyone who would like to attend will be held for him at the Ashland First United Methodist Church in Wesley Hall, 175 N Main St, Ashland, Oregon on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at 1:00 pm.
