She was raised and schooled in Portland, earned her BS in Nursing from the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center in 1956 and an MS in Nursing Administration at Catholic University of America (Washington D.C.) in 1963. She then did post graduate study in Nursing Administration at Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, Maryland) and completed a certificate in Spiritual Direction from Benedictine Queen of Angels Monastery (Salem, Oregon).
She was Nursing Supervisor at OHSU (Portland) a Nursing instructor at University of Ottawa, Canada and an air ambulance nurse, eventually earning her pilots license.
Lyn married Major General Richard E. McConnell (USA) in 1963. They lived in Paris, France, Ottawa, Canada and Washington, D.C. while General McConnell was on active duty. When he retired in 1976, they moved to Medford. Lyn lovingly cared for Dick for 23 years after his debilitating stroke.
She was a voracious reader and served her church in several capacities. She was a creative cook, always supportive of nursing and a much-loved friend. Those who knew her best remember her as a person of strong faith who lived a life of kindness and gratitude. She was humble, caring, thoughtful, generous and supportive.
Her parents, husband and stepson, Richard J. McConnell preceded her in death. She is survived by her nephews, Joe McConnell and Jon McConnell.
