N. Alleene Smallwood

N. Alleene Smallwood January 9, 1927 - January 26, 2016 Alleene Smallwood, 89, passed away on January 26, 2016 in Ashland after a long battle with dementia. A lifelong resident of Gilchrist, Lapine and Bend, Alleene was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Walter W. (Bud) Smallwood in 2004. Mrs. Smallwood was born in Dewey, Texas on January 9, 1927 to Herman and Sally Mericle. One of 5 children, she was preceded in death by sisters Myrtle, Billie, Lucy and brother Herman “Dub”. Alleene is survived by 2 daughters: Marsha Ann Phillips of Talent and Shirla Sue Bond of Oakridge. 5 grandchildren: Tyler Phillips of Talent, Arik Knowles (Kristen) of Las Vegas, Bryan Knowles (Tatiana) of Huntersville NC. Audra Hedberg (Erik) of Portland, and Ashlee Cardenas (Nick) of Redwood City. Also surviving are 7 great grandchildren: Hailey and Madison Knowles, Logan and Ellison Knowles, Abigail and Nicolas Cardenas, and Lucas Hedberg. Alleene was retired from the Forest Service on the Deschutes National Forest where she was a Business Management professional for many years. She was a 55 year member of the order of Eastern Star where she served as a Worthy Matron of the Bend Chapter. She was a lifelong member of Nydia # 4, Daughters of the Nile. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the following: Lolita and Marty Bell for their outstanding care of Mom, Brenda and Josh at Asante Hospice and Dr. Richard Morris of Asante Physician Partners. Rogue Funeral Alternatives is in charge of arrangements. Interment and memorial services will be at Deschutes Memorial Gardens, Bend, in the Spring.
