Patricia Vargas Garcia, age 94 of White City, Oregon, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.
Patricia was born to Adolfo Vargas and Antonia Arnold Vargas in Pasadena, CA. She was the youngest child of eleven siblings. When Patricia was six months old, her mother passed away from cancer.
She grew up during the depression, doing without many necessities. Patricia did have the love and support from her father along with aunts and uncles to provide for the large and extended family.
At a young age she learned to read and garden by checking out books at the library. These were hobbies that stayed with her during her lifetime. They gave her much joy and peace.
Patricia graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1949.
Patricia met her future husband, Carlos Garcia at a dance in 1950. Carlos served in the Army during the Korean War from 1950-1952. He returned home to marry Patricia on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1952.
Patricia was affectionately known as “Pat” to family and friends. Pat’s sisters-in-laws and aunts taught her how to cook. She was an amazing cook. Pat would have you sit down to eat while visiting. It was one of her ways to show how much she cared for you.
The young newlyweds lived in Eagle Rock, CA, then later in the mid 1950’s moved to Inglewood, CA.
Carlos worked for a Chevrolet dealership as an automobile paint restorer. Pat, in downtown Los Angeles, in the garment district, as a seamstress.
Their first child, a son, was born in 1953 but passed away. They went on to have two daughters, Pauline and Loretta.
In 1970, while vacationing in Oregon, everyone in the family fell in love with its beauty. On a dare, if Carlos could find a job, they would move to Oregon. He was hired, and so the family moved up north.
Pat and Carlos traveled to Alaska, Mexico, Hawaii, Texas, Los Angeles, and the Oregon Coast.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Carlos Jr., siblings Ricardo, Angel, Adolfo, Andrea, Margaret, Lucy, Cecelia, Frank Sr, Ester, and Adolf. Her beloved son-in-law, David Sanger, and best friend Joan Rose.
She leaves behind daughters Pauline Nabkel and Loretta Sanger, granddaughters Jacqueline Frankel and Kaitlin Sanger, great grandchildren Evan and Brooke Frankel, loving nieces Helen Nelson, Rachel Montoya, Yvonne Rafferty, Marie Cerezo, Elizabeth Stitt, Rosemary Carrescia, Lisa Vaughn, and sister-in-law Inez Garcia.
Pat was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a prolific storyteller, and forgiving in nature. Her passions were reading, cooking and gardening, crocheting, doll making, and sewing.
