Randi Ellen McDermott

Randi Ellen McDermott of Eagle Point, Oregon passed away on August 2nd, 2024, at the age of 78. As a consequence of dementia, most likely caused by Alzheimer's Disease, Randi was unable to communicate during her final years, but by outward appearance she spent these last years in relative peace and comfort.

Randi was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 8, 1945, the only child of Clifford Warren Reinhart and Marian Flower Coles, both of Illinois. After her father’s death at a young age, Randi moved to Southern California where she lived for the rest of the last century. She later spent part of her retired years in Truckee, California and finally in Eagle Point. Most of her working life was spent with the Pacific Bell telephone company in Southern California (and its various later incarnations) starting out as an operator and retiring as a technician.

In 1980 Randi married her late husband Dennis Michael McDermott. They remained together until his death in Eagle Point in 2009. They share one child, Kyle Christopher McDermott of Eagle Point. Randi has two older children from a previous marriage – Adam Clifford Smith of Thousand Oaks, California and Mesa, Arizona, and Pamela Carrie Garner née Smith of Thousand Oaks – and through Adam she has two grandchildren – Logan Sophie Smith and Bronwyn Sonia Smith. She is also survived by two stepchildren through Dennis – Sean Michael McDermott and Kevin Ryan McDermott, both in Texas with two children apiece.

Randi adopted Dennis’ Catholic faith, and both were involved in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults – RCIA – helping others join the Catholic Church. Since moving to Eagle Point Randi had at times been involved with the Eagle Point Women’s Club, the Republican Women’s Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and local craft groups. Randi was an avid crocheter, knitter, and quilter and left behind many wonderful, hand-crafted objects for her family to enjoy and remember her by.

Randi and Dennis will be inurned together at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, just a stone’s throw from where Dennis’ parents rest, in Grants Pass, Oregon with a rite of committal on January 17th, 2025, at 2:30 PM.
