Robert D Coffan was born in Syracuse NY on March 9, 1931 and was the second of two children by his father Charles W Coffan and his mother Jennette (Witty) Coffan. He is survived by three of his four children: Mark Coffan, Jill Coffan, and Robert Coffan as well as six grandchildren: Christina Coffan, Sarah Young and Seth Coffan, Daniel and Justin Moyer, Tiffany Coffan Wyatt and multiple great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his good friend Miriam Hall. He is predeceased by his older brother Chuck, his ex-wife Barbara Martin, and his dear daughter Pamela Moyer.
Bob grew up in upstate New York and had fond memories of vibrant autumn colors, maple syrup, snow drifts, and jumping into summery creeks with his big brother, Chuck and their friends. He was often indoors though, due to his asthma, and took to his father’s hobby of stamp collecting. His father was a US Postal railway mail clerk on the railroad line and brought back many stamps, along with interesting railroad stories that he shared with Bobby. He married Barbara at a young age and helped bring his 4 children into the world. The family made the big move “out west” to Colorado in the late 60s.
Bob was a drafting technician and some of his work took him out to work on the clean rooms for the western space shuttle launching site at Vandenberg Air Force Base in Lompoc CA. He settled on the west coast and spent many years along the bay in Eureka CA. He sailed a 31-foot ketch for a few years, hoping he could live on it, but never could quite make that happen. Bob enjoyed a great game of pinochle, along with a good margarita and chocolates! He biked hundreds of miles along the coast when his health prevailed. Then switched to playing softball with the “Old Guys” and going to Monday dances. He spent his last year with his son Robert’s family in Southern Oregon. Some of Bob’s ashes will be spread out from a wild and windy cliff face overlooking the Pacific. The rest will reside at Sunset Memorial Park in Eureka, CA.
Per Bob, please do not send flowers. Instead feel free to make a donation to the Salvation Army in your own neighborhood.
