Shirley attended all of her schooling in Portland. Shirley was the only child of Charles and Jessie and was so loved by her parents, Aunts, Uncles and Grandparents. Shirley met the love of her life, Dean Hansen in Portland, where they married and had 5 children. Shirley and Dean had 4 grandchildren – Ryan Hansen, Brandon Hansen, Taylor Hansen and Zak Hansen. They also had 3 Great Grandchildren – Dominic, Roman and Beau. Shirley, Dean and their kids spent their family life living in Portland, Oregon- Billings, Montana - Salt Lake City, Utah - Lake Oswego, Oregon and Medford, Oregon. Shirley was a homemaker for much of the kids younger life although she was always busy selling Tupperware during those years. Later in life when the kids had grown up, Shirley went to work and embarked on a wonderfully long and fulfilling career in Salt Lake City where she started out with Mancini working for Lady Brevani in the early 70’s. Then she crossed over to Mancini and Groesbeck where she was one of 2 , first female sales territory managers in the State of Utah. Shirley was then promoted to Retail Sales Planning Manager where she made life long connections with her “work family”. Shirley retired October 1, 1998. After enjoying retirement with some relaxation and travel, Dean and Shirley made a big move and left Salt Lake City and moved to Medford, Oregon in 1999. They bought the home that their son and daughter in law – David and Pamela Hansen – had built and raised their kids in for 10 years. Shirley and Dean loved this home and it was 1 block away from the family. They turned their home into their retreat and oasis where they loved to cook, garden, putz around in the big yard with many trees and flowers and birds. Dean and Shirley loved to play golf and they loved to fish at the many lakes in Southern Oregon. They had a cat named Tuts that adopted them and they loved that cat. Tuts brought them many years of joy and companionship. Shirley decided to go back to work again, part time and spent 8 years at Harry and David Country Store. She loved her job there. When Dean’s health failed, Shirley retired for good and stayed home to care for Dean. After Deans passing, Shirley spent her time with her son and daughter law and grandkids and great grandkids – all the holidays, birthdays, countless family dinners, travel, boating, visiting the local vineyards, fishing, golfing and lots and lots of patio chats. Shirley proudly attended the wedding of her Grandson Brandon to Keenan with family and friends in Mazatlán Mexico in November 2015 and even brought her best friend Shirley Schiller with her, next Shirley proudly attended the College graduation of her Granddaughter Taylor in June 2018 and then was thrilled at the birth of 2 Great-Grandbaby boys – Roman in 2017 and Beau in 2019. She continued to care for her home and yard until her illness. The year before she passed away, Shirley joined the YMCA and was swimming 18 laps 3 times a week, until her sudden illness at the end of February, 2019. Shirley was diagnosed with very aggressive cancer(s) in March, 2019. After so many hospital and doctor visits, procedures, lab work and many other tests Shirley was admitted into Asante Hospice. Her family cared for her, along with Asante Hospice, in her home. Shirley’s son David was by her side from beginning until end. David slept at Shirley’s house to care for her thru the nights the last month of her life. When Shirley knew she wasn’t going to live much longer, David made her the promise that she would never be alone until her last breath and she never was. Pamela and the grandkids- Brandon and Keenan Hansen, Taylor Hansen and Andrew Schock also took turns daily spending time with Shirley at her home, caring for her. Shirley loved her Hospice nurse Chris, they bonded immediately. He understood her and listened to her and truly cared. The Hansen family would like to extend a huge heart of thanks and gratefulness to Asante Hospice, to our family, family friends/Summit family and Christina Nakhoda (Dallas, Texas) and Stacey Bogenschutz (Salt Lake City, Utah) for all of the love and care and immense moral and emotional support they gave the family and Shirley during this heartbreaking time and for the years of fun, constant love and care they gave Shirley through her life. Shirley was a very private person, she did not want anyone to know she was sick and she did not want a funeral or a memorial. Shirley’s wishes were to be cremated and her ashes, along with Deans ashes and their son Bens ashes to be set free in the small fishing town of Clifton, Oregon on the Columbia River and in the Rogue River where Dean, Shirley, Ben and the rest of the family spent many beautiful times together as a family. Shirley’s family was at her bedside, holding her hands, when she passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2019 at exactly 12:15 p.m. Shirley Hansen was loved by many and is deeply missed by everyone who loved her. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Dean Hansen (Olaf and Hazel Hansen) and their sons Kent Hansen (Christina Nakhoda) and Ben Hansen (Tina Hansen (mother of Zak Hansen) and Kim Curtis (mother of Ryan Hansen).
