November 1, 1936, to August 3, 2026
Shirley Jean Davenport Johnson was born in Coquille, Oregon on November 1, 1936, to Lloyd C. “Duke” and Jean L. (Guerin) Davenport. Shirley died in Talent, Oregon on August 3, 2026, at the age of 89.
Family was the most important part of Shirley’s life. She raised three daughters who in turn blessed her with five granddaughters, and three great grandchildren. Shirley looked forward to spending as much time as possible with all of them and her extended family.
Shirley spent her early years on dairy farms in Arago, Broadbent, and Myrtle Point. She loved playing with her cousins, many of whom were like siblings to her, and they stayed close their entire lives.
She graduated from Myrtle Point High School in 1954. While in school she made many lifelong friends and looked forward to every class reunion and get together they had.
Shirley spent most of her working years with U.S. Bank. She began in Coquille, moving on to Medford, Portland, and Grants Pass. She retired in 1992 after the death of her father and moved back to Myrtle Point. For the next 29 years, she helped run the family farm, selling it in 2021 and moving back to the Rogue Valley. She spent her remaining years enjoying her family and friends.
Traveling was Shirley’s favorite thing to do, especially with family. She loved her trips to see family in California, Texas, Alabama, and even took a trip to Maine with her youngest granddaughter to see another granddaughter who was in school there. A trip to Alaska with another granddaughter and to Disneyland with family were cherished memories. Along with cruises, trips to the East Coast, and a favorite to England. So many places to see and never enough time.
Shirley Davenport Johnson is survived by her daughters: Rhonda (Ted) Fischer of Myrtle Point; Jeri (Kip) Keeton of Talent; and Kathleen Whitney of Boise. Granddaughters Stephanie Barklow (Ernest Harless), Heather Barklow (Brandon Johns), Jennie (Justin) Davis, Amy Morgan, and April Fischer. Great Granddaughters Valerie Ruh and Bodhi Davis; Great Grandson Charlie Ruh.
Services will be held on September 21, 2026, at 1:00 pm at the Roseburg National Cemetery Annex, 1770 W Harvard Ave, Roseburg, OR.
