Susie Anna Kravig
December 29, 1929 - December 13, 2024
Susie Anna (De Vries) Kravig was born to Tom and Agnes De Vries on December 29, 1929 in Artesia California. Susie was the oldest of seven children and was raised on a dairy farm,
Susie entered the first grade class of Bellflower Christian School and graduated from the high school in 1947. She was a member of the first class to complete all 12 grades at Bellflower Christian. While in high school Susie enjoyed many activities, especially music, singing, and playing the piano. She had a lovely soprano voice and continued to sing in community and church choirs all her life. She especially loved participating in Handel’s Messiah. Susie was also one of the first cheerleaders in her high school. This lead to the love of her life, Arvin Kravig. Arvin was an excellent athlete in high school and Susie was his cheerleader!
Arvin and Susie were married at First Bellflower Christian Reformed Church on May 4, 1949. They had one daughter, Charlene Sue.
Susie enjoyed working in retail and was an assistant buyer for Bullock’s Lakewood in the Infant and Toddler Department. Later, while living in North Carolina she worked at an antique store. She was excellent at helping people find just what they were looking for. For many years Arvin and Susie owned and ran Kravig’s Modern Lockers in Battle Ground, Washington where Susie ran the office.
Arvin and Susie had many friends from the various churches and places they have lived. They had a lot of fun camping with friends, especially trips to the Grand Canyon, the Grand Tetons, and interesting spots in between. Susie loved traveling to The Netherlands, the birthplace of her parents. She loved her extended family and was the unofficial historian. She kept track of her relatives and never forgot a birthday, her thoughtful cards will be missed. Ans as an avid reader, family and friends were often called to let them know of a recent good read.
Susie passed away in peace at her daughter’s home in Medford,Oregon, on December 13, 2024, two weeks before her 95th birthday.
She is survived by her daughter, Charlene Prinsen, and son in law, Paul Prinsen. Susie held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren: Alex and Jessica Prinsen (Casey and Chloe); Suzanne and Mikele Schnitman (Immanuele); and Katie and Jordan Sowers (Hendrik and Willem). Two siblings survive: Tom De Vries (Mary), Visalia, California and Jenny Van Duyn, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Brothers in law: Ken Bootsma (Denise), West Lafayette, Indiana; Don Daley (Pat), Boise, Idaho; and Glen Kravig (Peggy), Downey, California. Susie is also survived by many nieces and nephews, too numerous to list.
Wherever they lived Arvin and Susie always found a Reformed Church, and knowing about the mission of Rehoboth Christian School from an early age they visited Rehoboth on a trip to Oregon. Arvin and Susie loved children and appreciated Christian Education, wanting more children to benefit from this blessing.
A memorial service will be held at Cornerstone Christian Church on Saturday, January 25 at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
