October 19th, 1955 to October 8th, 2026
William George “Bill” Maitland Jr., 70, of Medford, Oregon, passed away on October 8, 2026.
He was born on October 19, 1955, in Chester, Pennsylvania.
Bill served in the United States Navy for more than 21 years, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer.
A wardroom and galley supervisor aboard submarines, he took great pride in the meals he and
his team prepared for their fellow sailors, knowing that a good meal could lift morale, provide
comfort, and bring the crew together during long stretches at sea. Cooking remained an
important part of his life long after his service ended. Making a meal for someone was his way
of showing he cared, and his family and friends knew his love through the food he prepared for
them.
He shared 35 years of marriage with his wife, Jeanne, and loved their time spent traveling
together. At home in Medford, Oregon, they worked side by side in their yard, building
something beautiful with their dogs nearby. She takes pride in all they created together and
will carry those memories with her always. His granddaughter, Aurora, had a special way of
making him smile, even in his final days.
He carried his Pennsylvania pride west with him and passed it down to his daughter, Jasmine,
teaching her how to make authentic Philly cheesesteaks and sharing his love for the
Philadelphia Eagles. She will always cherish the time spent learning beside her dad, grateful
that he gave her traditions that will keep him close, whether she’s in the kitchen or cheering on
their team.
Among those who will cherish his memory are his wife, Jeanne; his daughter, Jasmine; his
son-in-law, Edwin; and his granddaughter, Aurora.
He will be remembered with love and missed in the everyday moments: a meal together, a
story shared, and an Eagles game on.
