
He was born and raised in Medina, N. Y., the son of Sgt., Carl Tuohey of the Medina Police Dept., from 1933 thru 1953. His Uncle, Eugene Tuohey of Medina, and Godfather Maurice (Lank) O’Brien of Medina, both retired from the N. Y. S. Conservation Dept. as Game Wardens.
Maurice retired from the Onondaga County Sheriffs Dept., Syracuse, N. Y., in 1988, as a Sgt. with 26 years of service. He attended St Mary’s School where he served as an altar boy and graduated from Medina High School in 1951. During his police career, he attended Syracuse University, Onondaga Community College, Rutgers University and the University of Indiana. He joined Company C of the 174th Inf. NY National Guard in Medina at the age of 16, and upon graduation from high school transferred to the active US Navy where he became an aircraft mechanic, as well as a flight engineer, and plane Captain from 1951-1954. He was stationed at N.A.A.S. in Sanford Fl. with photographic Squadron 62 and did overseas duty from there. He returned to Medina and rejoined Company C and was eventually discharged as a Sgt. from the Army Reserve after completing 10 years of service. He joined the N. Y. S. Guard, #rd Reg. Jefferson Street Armory in Syracuse and rose to the rank of Lt/Col in the internal Security Battalion before retiring in 1986.
Maurice lived in Cicero with his family while with the Sheriffs Dept. and was a member of the Cicero Volunteer Fire Dept. and was an originating member of the North Syracuse based N.A.V.A.C Ambulance Corps. He was also an avid drag racer, and an originating member of the Empire State Timing Association. He was also a member of the Medina Fire Dept. in the 1950’s.
While in Cicero, he was associated with Little League, Boy Scouts Troop 117, and Pop Warner football. He was a life member of the VFW and American Legions in Medina. He was also a life member of the D.A.V. in Sanford Fl.
He is survived by his three sons, Todd Tuohey of Clay N. Y., Timothy of Cicero N. Y. and Tracy Tuohey of Calgary, Alberta Canada, six grandchildren, Bryce, Mitchell and Shaylyn Tuohey of Clay, Brendan and Nicole Tuohey of Cicero, and Sara Tuohey of Central Square, a sister, Patricia (Richard) Dujenski of Middleport, NY, sister- in- law, Marcia Tuohey of Medina N. Y., three nephews, Charles (Kim) Tuohey of Apopka, Fl., Carl (Jeanne) Tuohey of Medina NY and Craig Tuohey and his fiancée’ Molly Bailey of Boston, Ma.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Parish o Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 110 with Rev. Daniel J. Fawls offciating.
