Don McPherson of Meeker, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, June 12 at the age of 81. Don was born at home on Divide Creek near Silt, Colorado to Kenneth and Wilma McPherson where he grew up with his two younger brothers and adored little sister. He attended elementary and high school at Silt.
Don served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1962. From there he went to South Dakota to build the Fire Road for Custer National Park.
He worked hard throughout his life running heavy equipment, driving truck, working for Millar Coffee, and hauling dinosaur poop. He spent many years at ColoWyo Coal Co. retiring in 1995. Following retirement from ColoWyo Coal his favorite pastime was working for Jim Cook at the Meeker Golf Course mowing greens and fairways in the morning and playing golf in the afternoon.
In his later years he played most every day with his golf buddy Irv Griffin.
He was previously married to Vesta Mussetter from 1968-1984 with whom he had four children. In 1989 Don married Joyce Hazelbaker. They resided in Meeker for the remainder of his life.
Don is survived by his wife Joyce McPherson, his children: Mike (Janice) McPherson, Jennifer McPherson, and Heidi McPherson; grandchildren: Christopher McPherson, Katie McPherson and Cleone McPherson; his siblings: Janice Matticks (Bob), Kenneth McPherson (Janet) and Clifford McPherson (Jodie); and his two best golf buddies Irv Griffin and Jim Cook.
Don was preceded in death by infant,daughter Janice Lynne McPherson.
