James Gordon Brumback was born the son of Donald and Juanita (Archer) Brumback on September 9, 1948, in Craig, Colorado. He was also raised and loved by his step-parents, Edna Brumback and Louis Reynolds as well as his aunt and uncle, Hazel and Roy Hilton.
Jim graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a Bachelor Degree in History in 1970. He worked as a teacher, miner and coached youth sports as well.
He married Verleen Tucker in 1973. To this union, two sons were born. Jim and Verleen separated in 1992. Jim married Sylvia Dion and gained three step-children in 2006.
Jim was a great dad. He loved sports and taught his children how to hit and throw a baseball, how to shoot a basketball, how to throw a football, how to hit a golf ball and how to win or lose with their heads held high.
He was also a great father-in-law who made his daughters-in-law feel like part of the family. He loved his grandkids whether they were doing gymnastics, playing baseball, getting awards at school, or even getting into trouble.
He loved to go camping, sleeping under the stars and introduced his family to every good camping spot in the White River Valley. He also loved skiing and spent many weekends taking his son and family to ski races all over Colorado as his son competed with the Steamboat Winter Sports Club. He also helped his other son do several award-winning science fair projects.
He always encouraged his children to follow their dreams and was there to support them financially and emotionally. He also bailed them out of trouble more times than they could count. Jim will be greatly missed and forever loved by his family and many close friends.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sylvia Brumback; two sons, Roy Brumback and Neil Brumback; three step-children: Teri Marek, Ariana Allen and Anthony Stamm; four brothers: Dan Reynolds, Tom Brumback, Fred Brumback and Kenny Brumback; and one sister, Jacque Hottel. Jim is further survived by ten grandchildren: Dylan Brumback, Makenna Brumback, Faith Brumback, Skylar Brumback, Saddie Allen, Kaitlyn Allen, Jacquelyn Allen, Ruth Allen, Ashley Masson and Brady Marek; one great grandson, Thomas; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brothers Wayne, Steve Brumback, Dennis Reynolds and his sister Joanna Brumback.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Jim’s memory to the Red Cross in care of Grant Mortuary, 621 Yampa Avenue, Craig, Colorado 81625.
