SMS, Ret. Adalberto (Al) Garcia, Jr., 88, died January 15, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adalberto and Eleanor Mesa Garcia; sisters Irene Emma Gonzales (Ignacio) and Norma Rose Kostich (James); and brothers Hector G. Garcia (Elodia) and Antonio M. Garcia (Evelyn).
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary; daughter Angela (John S.) Griffin; sons David Garcia and Christopher (Lorrie) Garcia; and grandchildren Emily, John P., and Allison Griffin, and step grandsons Andrew and Alex Cartwright, as well as many nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Al entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1947 and retired after 20 years of service as a Senior Master Sergeant with the U.S. Air Force. In 1972, he became one of first 100 employees of Federal Express Corporation and retired 25 years later. He enjoyed serving others and volunteered as a Key Man at Methodist Hospital North and also for the St. Vincent De Paul Society at St. Ann Catholic Church-Bartlett where he was a parishioner since 1973. Al was a member of the Fed Ex Retiree Club.
Visitation will be Monday, January 21, 2019 at 1 p.m. followed by the funeral Mass at 2 pm at St. Ann Catholic Church-Bartlett. Internment with Military Honors will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 28, 2019 at West Tennessee Veterans’ Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Ann Catholic Church-Bartlett Building Fund, West Tennessee Veterans’ Home Fund, St. Vincent De Paul Society at St. Ann Catholic Church-Bartlett or Methodist Hospice Residence.
