Aleene Chris Whalen, widow of the late Patrick Joseph Whalen, is 87 years old and died on Monday, September 17, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital. Chris was born in Hickory Flat, Mississippi one of five children of the late Silas and Mamie Pennington. She loved to work in her garden, craft, camping and foremost her family. Chris was a retiree of the I.R.S. She was a member of the Good Sam Camping Club and the local Holiday Ramblers. Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, September 19th from five o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening and funeral services will be on Thursday, September 20th beginning at ten o'clock in the morning, all at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119. Celebrant Jonathan Matthews will lead the services. Along with her husband and parents, Chris was also preceded in death by her four siblings. She is survived by her son, Chuck Whalen; great-granddaughter, Alyssa Kay and numerous cousins.
