Alvis Black, Jr., age 95, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away February 23, 2021. He was born August 27, 1925 in Grayridge, Missouri. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after 30 years of working as a machinist. He was an avid fisherman and excellent fish cook.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Alvis Black and Lora Mae Skaggs Black; daughter, Linda Sue Watson; and 8 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Ruby Jerlene Black; children, David Black (Bobbie Scott), Keith Black (Deborah Bannister), and Carol Walker (Buck); 7 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 26 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home - Poplar Chapel. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 27 at 11:00 AM at Brown's Chapel Cemetery, Paragould, Arkansas.
