Sometimes people don't get the chance to grow old with loved ones because the body fails even when mind and spirit are strong, and their only option is to live one day at a time. Ann G. Ashbrand (nee Thelma Ann Grable) devoted her personal and professional attention to helping others achieve excellence through her teaching, mentoring and servant leadership. Her mission was to motivate and encourage those around her to use their God-given talents in His service. "Ms. Ann" quietly fought her battle with cancer for over 15 years and passed away on Tuesday May 8, 2018 in Memphis TN. She was born April 8, 1954 in Little Rock AR to Dr. James D. Grable and Virginia White Grable, both who preceded her in death. She grew up in Portageville MO and graduated from Arkansas State University in 1976, at which time she established residence in Memphis. She most recently retired from Jeri Davis International Healthcare Consultants & Recruiters. A talented musician, she was a piano & organ teacher for almost 30 years. She served the Boy Scouts of America in various volunteer leadership positions for over 25 years where her genuine love and concern for young men leaves a legacy for family, friends and colleagues. She is survived by her best friend and partner, Mike Kossmann; two sons, Chris Ashbrand (Heather) of Collierville TN, and Tim Ashbrand (Connie) of Memphis; a stepson, Michael Kossmann (Dawn) of Collierville; four grandchildren, Norah Ashbrand, Parker Hall, Harrison Ashbrand and Charlie Kossmann; her sister, Kaye Grable of Nashville; two brothers, Jim Grable (Patty) of Hopkinsville KY and Tom Grable (Linda) of Memphis; and a host of extended family and friends. Visitation will be Monday May 14, 2018 from 5:00-6:00PM at Family Funeral Care 4925 Summer Ave. Memphis TN 38122, with a celebration service immediately following.
