Barbara F. Montgomery

Barbara Faye Hopkins Montgomery, 85of Germantown, Tennessee passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on February 12, 2026. Born May 7, 1940 in Paris, Tennessee, she was the second oldest of seven children and is survived by her sister, Sherry Fulton (Steve)

She graduated E.W. Grove High School in Paris, Tennessee and later Baptist School of Nursing in Memphis. She was a registered nurse at Baptist Hospital for many years and took pride in caring for others.

Barbara married the love of her life, Jim, in 1962 and they remained faithfully by each others side for 55 years until his passing in 2018. They shared a love of travel and were able to visit many destinations around the world. In later years when Jim became ill, Barbara cared for him with unwavering devotion and strength, reflecting the depth of their commitment to one another that guided their marriage. They were the definition of soul mates.

Barbara had many interests. She was a watercolor artist who found joy in painting and expressing the beauty she saw in the world. Her art was displayed in her home, homes of others and in some shows. She was a lifelong volunteer. Her volunteer efforts included John Gaston Hospital for new mothers, symphony guild, art league, dachshund races at Germantown festival and in her later years very active with Friends of Germantown Animal Shelter.

Above all, she loved her family. She is survived by her son Van Montgomery (Carrie), daughters Tiffany Kelso (Cliff), and Lynne Long (Chad). She was extremely proud of her 3 grandchildren Savannah Kelso (Clayton), Tate Kelso (Lauren) and Menzie Rains (Colin).

She is remembered for her sweet nature, graciousness and quiet strength.

The family will host a Celebration of Barbara's life on March 21, 2026 at 12:30 PM with service beginning at 1:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38119.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Friends of Germantown Animal Shelter, 7700 Southern Avenue, Germantown, Tennessee 38138.
