Betty Jean McGonagill, 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at her home in Memphis, Tennessee. Betty was born on May 20, 1934 in Oxford, Mississippi. She was the only child of William and Eva McGonagill.
After graduating from Messick High School, Betty began a long successful 45-year career which culminated as Manager with Proctor and Gamble’s Buckeye Cellulose Federal Credit Union.
Betty was a devout Christian and faithful member of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis. One of her best memories was a trip to Israel to tour the Holy Land under the guidance of the late Dr. Adrian Rogers. That trip left a profound and lifelong impact on Betty’s spiritual and caring soul.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents William and Eva McGonagill. She is survived by her cousin Clay McGonagill and family, as well as Laura Sue O’Neal, who Betty said was “the sister she never had.”
Betty never met a stranger. She leaves behind a host of friends and family to cherish her love, memory, and gentle and kind ways to everyone who was blessed to know her.
Thank you to Laura Sue O’Neal, Clay McGonagill, and her caretakers for the exceptional care given to her.
Family and friends will gather at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, on Monday, October 7 from 1:00 PM until the procession leaves for a 2:00 PM graveside service in Memorial Park Cemetery.
