Bill C. Houston of Germantown, Tennessee passed away on Friday, June 22, 2018 at Germantown Methodist Hospital. He was born on November 4, 1938 in Rector, Arkansas, later moving to McCrory, Arkansas, graduating from high school there in 1956. He graduated from the University of Arkansas, majoring in accounting, and started his career in Jackson, TN with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation as a bank examiner. After moving up the ladder, he lived in many cities of the United States, settling in Memphis as Regional Director. Bill also taught classes as the University of Memphis School of Banking.
After retiring from F.D. I. C., Bill was appointed as Tennessee State Commissioner of Financial Institutions during the term of Governor Don Sundquist.
Bill returned to Germantown, TN, once serving on the financial planning committee, former member of Germantown Kiwanis Club and active member of Germantown Presbyterian Church.
Golf was Bill’s favorite pastime, playing with many friends at Germantown Country Club and Memphis National over the years, the highlight of his golfing career being a 75th birthday golfing tour of Scotland, a gift from his son. He loved talking about that trip, one of his favorite memories.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Genora Houston of McCrory and his brother Charlie Houston.
He is survived by his wife Macie McNabb Houston, daughter Jill Helou of Warrenton, Virginia; Meredith Shipman of Leesburg, Virginia; and son Adam Houston of McLean, Virginia; and ten adoring grandchildren all of Virginia. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Medley McNabb Ewan and her children, Cade and Mallory Grinder.
A memorial service will be held at Germantown Presbyterian Church on Friday, June 29th beginning at 1PM. In lieu of flowers memorials in Bill’s honor may be offered to Germantown Presbyterian Church.
